Mariano Mayer obtained his degree and post-degree as Lawyer and Master in Business Law at Austral University, and he studied corporate finance at CEDEF (Law, Business and Finance Studing Center, for its spanish acronym). In addition, he was a professor of Information Law at the School of Communication of Austral University and he also had teached in several institutions dedicated to promote the entrepreneurial activity in Argentina. For 15 years he has worked as an attorney for entrepreneurs. In September 2013 he was appointed as the Head of the General Direction of Entrepreneurship of Buenos Aires City, established as part of the new "Innovation Plan" for the city. In the GCE 2015 in Milan, the city of Buenos Aires won the GEC Cities Challenge for the rapidly expanding ecosystem of startups and innovation policies designed to promote growth of its entrepreneurs. In December 2015 he was appointed as Secretary of Entrepreneurs and SMEs of Argentina. Under his leadership, it was created for the first time in the history of the Argentine government the Undersecretary of Entrepreneurs. Since then he has been promoting a series of public policies aimed to foster, assist and facilitate entrepreneurship, such us: legal framework (Entrepreneurship Act), community (Entrepreneurs Clubs, Cities to Entrepreneur and Incubators Network), financing (Seed Fund, Acceleration Funds, Expansion Funds, Fund of Funds), social innovation (Social Innovation Nodes, Inclusive Value Chains and Social Enterprises and Incubators), Entrepreneurship Argentine Academy, gender (women economic empowerment), and internationalization. He has spoken in some of the world's most important events as the Global Entrepreneurship Congress, South by Southwest (SXSW), The Economist, LAVCA Venture Investors Annual Meeting and International SMEs Day Celebration in United Nations. Also, he has officiated as jury of several business competitions related to national and international entrepreneurial ecosystem. Also, he was a key player in the declaration of June 27th as the UN International Day of SMEs. Recognizing the importance of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in achieving the new global development goals, the resolution was introduced in the United Nations General Assembly by the delegation of Argentina, headed by Mariano Mayer,. The celebration of the first Day of SMES was held in the “SMEs Week” in Buenos Aires, during the 62nd Conference of the International Council of Small Enterprises (ICSB), and the first ICSB´s one held in Latin America.
