Two parallel tracks. All delegates will gather for joint lunch and subsequent Policy Hack pitches, as well as for the evening SNS Banquet.
Policy Hack track
9.00 am - 4.00 pm: Startup Nations Policy Hack
9.00 am- 9.30 am: Opening. Team leaders, mentors and judges will be presented, as well as the rules of the day.
9.30 pm - 11.30 am: Team leaders work with the Public Policy Lean Canvas to refine their proposed policy solutions with support from their team members and mentors.
11.30 am - 12.00 pm: Teams prepare to pitch
12.00 pm - 1.15 pm: Networking lunch
1.30 pm - 2.20 pm: First round of pitches
2.30 pm - 2.45 pm: Judges deliberate
2.45 pm - 3.00 pm: Judges announce the three finalists.
3.00 pm - 4.00 pm: Finalist teams iterate to prepare for the final pitches. Other teams are welcome to stay to also receive mentor support to help improve and implement their solutions.
Panels & Workshops track
9.00 am - 10.20 am: Indonesia's startup ecosystem: achievements & opportunities ahead (by invitation only).
During this session, top analysts from the World Bank Group and local ecosystem stakeholders will present their perspectives on the country's ecosystem.
10.30 am - 12.00 pm: National-level policymaking for dynamic entrepreneurship
This workshop will walk participants through the process of focusing policy interventions on the goal of promoting dynamic entrepreneurial activity. The session will be led by Hugo Kantis (PhD), Director of the Entrepreneur Development Program (EDP-Prodem), author of the Index of Systemic Conditions for Dynamic Entrepreneurship and a consultant to several governments and multilateral organizations. Dr. Kantis' work on smarter entrepreneurship strategies has been recognized by the 2017 Startup Nations Award for Growndbreaking Policy Thinking.
12.00 pm - 1.15 pm: Networking lunch
1.30 pm - 2.20 pm: Presentation of policy solutions developed by the Startup Nations Policy Hack teams
Delegates are requested to listen to the pitches of policy solutions developed by the Startup Nations Policy Hack teams, as it will feed into the next day's activities.
2.30 pm - 4.00 pm: City-level policymaking - How to develop a strategy
Led by the Startup Genome team which authors the annual Global Startup Ecosystem Report, this workshop will walk participants through the process of deciding which actions an ecosystem needs according to the stage in which it is.
7.30 pm - 10.00 pm: SNS Banquet
This SNS sit-down dinner will feature remarks by the Mayor of Surabaya, and the presentation of the top three finalists public policy solutions emerging from the Policy Hack.
Saturday, November 17
9.00 am - 4.30 pm: SNS Unconference
- Regulatory brainstorming: Delegates will share about anticipatory regulation and experimental approaches to regulation, as well as their experience in tackling regulatory legacies and the politics of regulation.
- New metrics and big data: we will showcase examples of how to develop more accurate metrics of ecosystem improvement, and an introduction to use “big data” in measuring the impact of policy interventions.
- Official launch of the World Bank Group's flagship report on High-Growth Entrepreneurship.
5.00 pm - 8.00 pm: Optional city tours and field visits.
Sunday, November 18
9.00 am - 12.00 pm: Planning meeting of the Startup Nations Ministerial Steering Committee (closed to the public)
